Ukemi: The Art of Falling

Ukemi: The Art of Falling is a parkour and circus performance of 30 minutes, with a pedagogical aim, utilising a 5x3m portable parkour structure, made for outdoors at festivals, schools and events.

It is an ode to the fall, aiming to reframe dealing with risk as a wonderful experience when done in the right way. It will show how it is an art that can be practiced. How to mentally and physically prepare for risky endeavours, how to fall safely, how to accept and learn from failure and how to support, help and encourage each other all throughout - essentially creating a healthy culture around risk.

The show plays a lot with expectation and moves between humour, tension and personal vulnerabilities. The show is especially aimed at youths because I see a need for and want to encourage this process to them as an answer to the pressures of perfectionism, but the show is accessible for all ages.

The rehearsals happened in the parkour hall Rush World West and the structure is designed and built by Onur and Ilhami Eren, owners of Rush World.
